My name is Miriam Velez, and my husband is Roberto Rivera. We met playing dominos in my mother's house. Our dream was to make a domino house, La Case del Domino. Because right here in Chicago and Humboldt Park, you go everywhere and you're going to see people playing dominos. Domino is part of our culture, Domino is who we are. It’s attached to the culture of the Caribbean.
So we’ve invested a lot of passion, a lot of money, and a lot of time, to build a community space for people to gather and enjoy dominos. We call it “Pe Erre”, as in P and R (in Spanish) for “Puerto Rico.” We invite people across generations and ethnicities to play together, to make friends and to learn from each other.
