I roll dice for charity

Amuse The People
I'm Zac Guastaferri. I do a thing called Dice Night. It’s a charity event in the city based around dice playing, specifically the Game of Threes. In Threes, you roll a handful of dice, trying to hit the number three as much as possible, or pushing your luck for better rolls.

Where this all started was 2005. I’ve been playing Threes with my friends at parties and I wanted to introduce other people to the game. I also wanted to play in bars and get new people to play. And then I realized the way that we could include community members is to make this a charitable event. We could raffle tickets for a dollar each that anyone could use to buy into the dice games. And all that money could go to good causes.

Dice Night raises money for local and international organizations like the Chicago Abortion Fund, Chicago Hope Food Pantry, No Kid Hungry, and Doctors Without Borders. I also involve local businesses in the area, who donate prizes to help us raise money (even if you don't chuck dice and just show up for the raffle).

One of the coolest parts is that a community is formed around it. As Dice Night grows, I've seen people who didn't know how to play link up with people who were playing, make friends with everybody, and then next Dice Night, they all show up together. So it's just been a really cool way to foster community while helping really, really, really important causes.
