00:00:02.220 --> 00:00:04.659
Shalom Farms is a nonprofit located outside of Richmond,

1
00:00:04.699 --> 00:00:05.099
Virginia,

2
00:00:05.179 --> 00:00:06.059
which is where I'm from,

3
00:00:06.139 --> 00:00:08.380
and my first experience there

4
00:00:08.659 --> 00:00:12.079
was volunteering harvesting potatoes in elementary school.

5
00:00:12.539 --> 00:00:14.720
And I think that their mission

6
00:00:14.899 --> 00:00:17.370
to promote food access is incredibly important,

7
00:00:17.700 --> 00:00:19.079
especially in Richmond,

8
00:00:19.940 --> 00:00:23.479
because their work reframes the idea of

9
00:00:23.940 --> 00:00:28.520
uh lack of access to food or lack of access to healthy and fresh food.

10
00:00:29.309 --> 00:00:30.450
From a

11
00:00:30.629 --> 00:00:31.370
fault

12
00:00:31.500 --> 00:00:35.220
of an individual citizen or from an inescapable tragedy

13
00:00:35.700 --> 00:00:36.950
to what it actually is,

14
00:00:37.029 --> 00:00:39.610
which is frequently a racist

15
00:00:40.029 --> 00:00:43.209
and targeted attack on Richmond's citizens.

16
00:00:43.860 --> 00:00:45.869
And so their mission to promote

17
00:00:46.150 --> 00:00:49.369
food access is also a mission to promote equality,

18
00:00:49.459 --> 00:00:49.990
which

19
00:00:50.310 --> 00:00:51.369
is incredibly important.
